작년 담배 판매량, 전년대비 4.1% 증가했다

Sales of cigarettes in South Korea rose 4.1 percent on-year last year as smokers' purchases via duty-free channels were thwarted amid the pandemic, the finance ministry said Friday.

지난해 국내 담배 판매는 코로나바이러스 유행 사태로 인해 면세 채널을 통한 흡연자들의 구매가 좌절되면서 전년 대비 4.1%가 증가했다고 금요일에 기획재정부가 발표했다.

South Korean smokers purchased 3.59 billion 20-cigarette packs last year, compared with 3.45 billion packs the previous year, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

기획재정부에 따르면 한국의 흡연자들은 작년에 35억9000만갑을 구매했는데, 이는 전년도의 34억5000만갑보다 늘어난 수치다.

The rise in domestic sales came as tobacco sales at duty-free shops sharply fell due to low overseas travel amid the pandemic, which helped boost domestic sales, the ministry said.

내수판매 증가는 대유행으로 해외여행이 저조해 면세점 담배 판매가 급격히 감소함에 따라 나타났으며 이는 내수판매 증가에 기여했다고 기재부는 설명했다.

Sales of cigarettes declined 17.7 percent last year, compared with 2014, a year before the country hiked prices of tobaccos.

지난해 담배판매량은 담배 가격을 올리기 전인 2014년과 비교해 17.7% 감소했다.

The ministry said it indicates that the nation's anti-smoking campaign had an impact on curbing smoking.

기획재정부는 한국의 금연운동이 흡연 감소에 영향을 미쳤음을 나타낸다고 말했다.

The country increased the price of cigarettes by 80 percent in January 2015, from 2,500 won per pack to 4,500 won, in a move to reduce smoking.

한국은 흡연을 줄이기 위해 2015년 1월 담배 가격을 한 갑당 2,500원에서 4,500원으로 80% 인상했다.

The government mandated that tobacco companies place graphic images depicting the harmful effects of smoking on the upper part of cigarette packs in 2016.

정부는 2016년 담배회사들이 담뱃갑 겉에 흡연의 폐해를 묘사한 그래픽 이미지를 부착하도록 의무화했다.

Sales of traditional cigarettes gained 4.8 percent on-year to 3.21 billion packs last year. Those of heat-not-burn tobacco products rose 4.5 percent to 379 million packs.

지난해 전통적인 궐련 담배 매출은 32억1000만갑으로 전년 대비 4.8% 증가했다. 궐련형 전자담배는 3억7900만 갑으로 4.5%가 증가했다.

Sales of vaporizer-based liquid electronic cigarettes plunged 97.6 percent to 400,000 pods as the government strongly advised people not to use liquid e-cigarettes, warning that such vaping products could cause serious lung illness or death.

정부가 액상 전자담배 사용을 자제하라고 강력히 권고하면서 액상형 전자담배 판매량은 40만 포드로 전년 대비 97.6% 급감했다.
