집중 호우, 중부 지방 강타

Torrential rain pounded most of South Korea over the weekend.

주말 동안 집중호우가 한국 대부분 지역을 강타했다.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said the heavy rain triggered landslides in dozens of places, flooded residential areas and roads, and damaged some riverside structures.

행정안전부는 이번 폭우로 수십 군데서 산사태가 발생했고 주택가와 도로가 침수됐으며 일부 하천 구조물도 파손됐다고 밝혔다.

Much of the damage occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area and the central region.

피해의 상당 부분은 수도권과 중부지방에서 발생했다.

The government is moving to designate special disaster zones in the nation's interior, paving the way for state support for the central regions that have seen losses of life and property damage due to deadly downpours.

정부는 치명적인 폭우로 인명 및 재산 피해가 발생한 중부지방에 대한 국가적 지원 방안을 마련하면서, 내륙지방을 특별재난지역으로 지정하는 것을 고려하고 있다.

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun ordered the relevant ministries to review the necessity of the declaration of special disaster zones, during a Cabinet meeting in Seoul, Tuesday.

정세균 국무총리는 화요일 서울에서 열린 국무회의에서 특별재난지역 선포의 필요성을 검토하라고 관계 부처에 지시를 내렸다.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, 13 people have been killed, with 13 others still missing as of 10:30 a.m., Tuesday.

행정안전부 산하 중앙재난안전대책본부에 따르면 화요일 오전 10시 30분 기준으로 13명이 숨졌으며 13명이 실종됐다.

The massive downpours have also forced the suspension of some train services in mountainous areas and the shutdown of roads and low-lying bridges in the capital region.

많은 양의 집중 호우로 인해 산악 지대의 일부 열차 운행이 중단되고 수도권 도로와 저지대 교량도 폐쇄됐다.
