Middle school student assaulted teacher for money
2만원 때문에 학교 선생님 때린 '철없는 중학생'
Two middle school students have been suspended after one hit his teacher in the back of the head because the other offered him 20,000 won to do so.
선생님을 때리면 2만원을 주겠다는 친구와 이 말을 듣고 교실에서 선생님의 뒤통수를 때린 중학생이 정학 처분을 받았다.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE), Wednesday, the incident occurred at a middle school in Seongbuk-gu, northeastern Seoul, during science class.
서울시교육청에 따르면 이 사건은 지난 수요일 서울 성북구의 한 중학교에서 과학 수업 중 발생했다.
Later on, the student confessed that his friend actually offered him 20,000 won to strike his homeroom teacher but he was afraid, so he decided instead to target the young, female teacher.
가해 학생은 친구가 담임 선생님을 때리면 2만원을 주겠다고 했지만 무서워서 대신 젊은 여교사를 목표로 했다고 고백했다.
The school immediately held a disciplinary committee and punished the two students by suspending them for 10 days. By enforcement ordinance, it is the highest level of punishment that a middle school can hand down to a student. The restriction on expulsion is due to middle school education being compulsory for all adolescents.
학교 측은 즉각 징계위원회를 열어 두 학생에게 10일간의 정학 처분을 내렸다. 초·중등교육법 시행령상 중학교에서 10일 출석 정지는 가장 높은 수준의 징계다. 퇴학을 못 시키는 이유는 모든 청소년에게 중학교 교육이 의무화되었기 때문이다.
The school also readjusted the classes so the teacher would not teach the students in question after they returned to school. She took sick leave to recover from the shock of the incident.
학교 측은 또 해당 학생들이 복학한 뒤 피해 교사가 이들을 가르치지 않도록 수업을 재조정했다. 피해 교사는 이번 사건의 충격에서 벗어나기 위해 병가를 낸 상태다.
Regarding the case, an official at the Korea Federation of Teachers' Associations said it showed teachers' authority has been damaged. "We need a comprehensive measure, for not only amending the legal system but also creating a culture where teachers are respected," he said.
한국교원단체총연합회(교총)의 한 관계자는 "이번 사건은 끝없이 추락한 교권의 한 단면을 보여주는 사건"이라며 "법 개정뿐 아니라 교사를 존중하는 문화를 만드는 종합적인 대책이 필요하다"고 말했다.
