■ Discussion Should Be Had by Next Government(차기 정부에서 논의 있어야 해)

The government deserves a fair part of the blame for having been bent-on expanding the public apparatus and increasing its number of civil servants. The growing call for smaller government has fallen on deaf ears again when representatives from the government and union of government employees agreed to extend the retirement age for grade six and lower level civil servants officials from the current 57 to 60.

정부기구를 확대하고 공무원 수를 늘리는 데 열성인 정부는 똑같이 비난 받아 마땅하다. 정부와 공무원노동조합 대표가 6급 이하 공무원 정년을 현재의 57세에서 60세로 연장하기로 합의한 것은 거세게 정부 조직 축소를 촉구하는 현실을 외면한 처사이다.

Given the tendency toward an aging society, we need to seriously consider a comprehensive program with its far-flung impact upon all of society. But this does not necessarily mean that the plan has to be hurried through. The next government is expected to embark on full-fledged efforts toward a smaller government, which means any plan regarding the retirement age should be delayed for the time being.
