Media show to light up DDP
동대문디자인플라자를 밝힐 미디어쇼 열린다
Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) will become a big screen for a mixed media show of light, video and music, during the year-end holiday season.
동대문디자인플라자(DDP)가 연말연시에 빛과 영상, 음악이 혼합된 미디어쇼의 초대형 스크린으로 탈바꿈한다.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul Design Foundation, Thursday, a projection show titled "DDP Light" will be presented on the facade of the building from Dec. 20 to Jan. 3.
목요일 서울시와 서울디자인재단에 따르면 다음 달 20일부터 내년 1월 3일까지 건물 외벽 전면에서 'DDP 라이트'라는 제목의 빛의 향연이 펼쳐진다.
The theme of the 16-minute event will be "Seoul Haemong." In English haemong can be translated as "dream reading," and the projections will feature past, present and future images of Seoul and Dongdaemun based on photos collected from citizens.
16분간 펼쳐질 이 행사의 주제는 '서울 해몽'이다. 해몽은 영어로 '꿈 해석'으로 번역될 수 있다. 'DDP라이트' 쇼는 시민들로부터 수집된 사진을 바탕으로 서울과 동대문의 과거, 현재, 미래의 이미지를 보여줄 계획이다.
Refik Anadol, a renowned media artist from Turkey, will take charge of the images and Min Sey, a Korean media art director, will be the chief director.
터키 출신의 저명한 미디어 아티스트인 레픽 아나돌이 메인작가로 참여했고, 미디어 연출 분야를 선도하는 민세희 씨가 총감독을 맡았다.
During the event, a Christmas market, performances, seminars and workshops will also be held, as well as a countdown on New Year's Eve.
행사 기간동안 크리스마스 시장, 공연, 세미나, 워크숍이 열리며 새해 카운트다운 행사도 진행될 예정이다.
The city government aims to hold "DDP Light" every year to develop it into a representative night event for the tourism industry like Vivid Sydney in Australia, inviting various media designers from Korea and abroad.
서울시는 'DDP 라이트'를 매년 개최해 호주의 '비비드 시드니'처럼 관광산업을 대표하는 야간 행사로 발전시키며, 국내외 다양한 미디어 디자이너들의 초청하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.
"DDP Light is a piece taking advantage of DDP's unique exterior," Choi Kyung-ran, CEO of the foundation, said in a press release. "We'll make it part of a night tour for the winter season when the number of tourists is relatively small, creating a light festival that will lead the development of the DDP area."
최경란 서울디자인재단 대표는 보도자료를 통해 "DDP 라이트는 DDP의 독특한 외관을 활용한 고유 라이트 콘텐츠다. 관광객이 비교적 적은 겨울철의 대표 야간관광콘텐츠로 운영해 향후 DDP의 미래를 이끌어갈 대표적인 빛 콘텐츠 축제로 동대문 지역을 발전시켜 나가겠다"고 말했다.
