Nexon, NCSOFT vie for market lead with new games
넥슨·엔씨소프트, 신작 맞대결 펼친다
Nexon is waging a war against NCSOFT with its new mobile game "V4" seeking to steal the lead position in the country's mobile game market which has been monopolized by the latter with its role-playing game (RPG) "Lineage M."
넥슨이 모바일 게임 시장을 롤플레잉게임(RPG) ‘리니지M’으로 독식해온 엔씨소프트로부터 선두 자리를 빼앗기 위해 신작 ‘V4’를 공개하며 전쟁에 나섰다.
The company said Thursday that since its launch, "V4" has succeeded in drawing gamers' attention, being ranked top on Apple's App Store.
넥슨은 ‘V4’의 출시 이후, 애플의 앱스토어에서 1위를 차지하며 게이머들의 이목을 집중시키는 데 성공했다고 목요일 밝혔다.
However, it remains to be seen whether Nexon can retain such a positive response as its arch rival NCSOFT is also set to release its new mobile RPG, "Lineage 2M," Nov. 27.
그러나 경쟁사인 엔씨소프트가 오는 27일 모바일 RPG 신작 '리니지 2M'를 출시하는 만큼, 넥슨이 긍정적인 반응을 계속 유지할 수 있을지는 미지수다.
Analysts said both Nexon, which failed to draw attention with its most recent game "Traha" in the first half of 2019 and NCSOFT, which hasn't released any new games this year, are expected to boost their profit margins with their new offerings.
업계 전문가들은, 2019년 상반기 ‘트라하’를 출시했지만, 흥행에 실패한 넥슨과 올해 신작을 출시하지 않은 엔씨소프트 모두 ‘V4’와 ‘리니지2M’으로 수익성을 높일 것으로 기대한다고 밝혔다.
Nexon is betting big on "V4" as the RPG was developed by affiliate NAT Games, which is known for producing the popular games "HIT" and "Overhit."
넥슨은 과거 흥행에 성공한 '히트'와 '오버히트’의 제작사로 유명한 넷게임즈가 개발한 RPG 신작 'V4'에 큰 기대를 걸고 있다.

박용현 넷게임즈 대표는 모바일 게임 신작 ‘V4’가 ‘다중접속역할수행게임(MMORPG)의 진정한 가치’를 제공할 수 있다고 장담했다.
The key difference between "V4" and other RPGs is that it allows users to interact with others who are on different servers, while other games only enable users to play with gamers on the same server.
‘V4’의 유저들은 다른 서버의 유저들과도 상호작용을 할 수 있는 반면, 다른 게임들은 같은 서버의 유저들과만 게임 할 수 있다.
To commemorate the launch of "V4," Nexon will conduct free giveaway events until Dec. 1. Those who log in to create characters for "V4," can enter a raffle to win prizes such as an iPhone 11 and a round-trip ticket to Hawaii.

To turn gamers' eyes away from "V4," NCSOFT made two announcements. On Wednesday, it said it will launch "Lineage 2M," a mobile version of its popular PC game "Lineage 2," Nov. 27 and offered mass updates of "Lineage M," Thursday.
엔씨소프트는 ‘V4’로부터 게이머들의 눈길을 돌리기 위해 두 가지를 발표했다. 인기 PC 게임 '리니지2'의 모바일 버전인 '리니지2M'을 오는 27일 출시한다고 수요일 밝혔고, '리니지M'의 대규모 업데이트를 목요일 단행했다.
"Lineage M" has been the most profitable game in Korea, leading the top-grossing chart of the Google Play app store since its launch in 2017.
'리니지M'은 지난 2017년 출시 이후 구글플레이 스토어 매출 순위 1위를 지키며 국내에서 가장 많은 수익을 올린 게임으로 꼽힌다.
NCSOFT CEO Kim Taek-jin expressed high confidence for the success of "Lineage 2M," saying, "No other games will be able to catch up to the technological level of Lineage 2M for years to come."
김택진 엔씨소프트 대표는 “리니지2M의 기술 수준을 따라올 게임이 향후 몇 년간 없을 것”이라고 말하며 ‘리니지2M’의 성공에 높은 자신감을 나타냈다.
