Another day, another record: Tesla shares near $1,000

DETROIT (AP) – Eight months after it seemed headed for the corporate junkyard, Tesla is now worth more than General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler combined, even though the Big Three together sell more cars and trucks in two weeks than Tesla does in a whole year.
테슬라가 상장폐지의 길에 접어드는 것처럼 보인 지 8개월이 지난 지금, 빅3 자동차 업체(제너럴모터스, 포드, 피아트 크라이슬러)들이 2주간 판매하는 차량 대수가 테슬라의 1년 총 판매 대수보다 많음에도 불구하고 테슬라는 이들을 합친 것보다도 더 몸값이 비싼 회사가 됐다.
The stock of the electric vehicle and solar panel maker has rocketed to nearly $900, up over 30 percent in just the past two days.

It is now worth five times what it was in June, when there were whispers of bankruptcy surrounding the company founded by the erratic visionary Elon Musk.

Among the world’s automakers, Tesla, with a market value Tuesday just shy of $160 billion, ranks behind only Toyota, at $232 billion.

Many investors see it as justified for a company that is leading the world in electric vehicle sales amid an expected global transition from the internal combustion engine to batteries.
내연기관에서 전기 배터리로의 전 세계적인 전환이 예상되는 가운데, 많은 투자자들은 전기자동차 분야에서 세계를 선도하고 있는 기업의 주가 급등은 당연한 것으로 여기고 있다.
Others see the meteoric rise as just plain crazy for a company that’s never turned a full-year profit.
다른 이들은 연간 흑자를 낸 적이 없는 테슬라의 주가 급등은 그야말로 미친 짓이라고 보고 있다.
“It doesn’t seem to be closely attached to reality,” said Gartner analyst Mike Ramsey.
시장조사업체 가트너의 애널리스트 마이크 램지는 "테슬라의 주가 급등은 현실과 밀접한 관련이 없는 것 같다"라고 말했다.
Tesla sold only 367,500 vehicles last year, compared with millions at GM, Ford or Fiat Chrysler.
지난해 테슬라는 각각 수백만 대를 판매한 빅3에 비해 36만7500대만을 팔았다.
GM alone sold 7.7 million, 21 times more than Tesla.
GM은 770만 대를 팔았는데, 이는 테슬라보다 21배나 많은 판매량이다.
