President Moon Jae-in has nominated/ Mun Moo-il, head of the Busan High Prosecutors’ Office,/ as the new prosecutor general.

문재인 대통령이 지명했다/ 문무일 부산고검장을/ 새 검찰총장 후보로

The presidential office said,/ “Given that he is widely trusted by prosecutors, Mun is the right person to stabilize and reform the prosecution.”

이와 관련해 청와대는 밝혔다,/ “문 후보자가 내부의 신망이 두터워 검찰 조직을 조속히 안정시키고 검찰 개혁을 훌륭히 수행할 적임자”라고

The nominee has won fame/ for handling fairly high-profile corruption cases/ involving high-ranking officials, political big wigs and business tycoons.

문 후보자는 유명세를 얻었다/ 부패 사건을 공정하게 다뤄/ 고위 공직자, 정치 거물, 재벌 등이 관련된

He also led a task force to overhaul the prosecution last year.

그는 지난해엔 검찰 개혁 전담반을 이끌기도 했다.

Not surprisingly,/ the public has given the cold shoulder/ to the prosecution.

새로운 얘기가 아니다/ 국민들의 시선이 싸늘하다는 것은/ 검찰을 바라보는

That’s why/ the new administration has prioritized/ reforming the top law enforcement agency.

그것이 이유다/ 새 정부가 1순위로 올린/ 최고 법집행기관인 검찰을 개혁 대상으로 삼은 것

But prosecutors have no one to blame but themselves/ for this pitiable situation.

하지만 검찰은 누구도 탓할 수 없다/ 이런 한심한 상황으로 몰린 데 대해

The prosecution has abused/ its exclusive rights to indict to shield those/ in power and its organization.

검찰은 악용해 왔다/ 기소독점권이라는 막강한 권력을/ 정권과 조직 보호에

It is not immune from accountability/ for the Choi Soon-sil scandal that led to the impeachment and ouster of an incumbent president.

책임으로부터도 자유롭지 못하다/ 최순실 사건에 대한/ 현직 대통령 탄핵이라는 초유의 사태를 야기한

A string of irregularities involving prosecutors/ has angered the people.

아울러 검사가 관련된 잇단 비리가 드러나/ 국민들의 분노를 자아내기도 했다

Against this backdrop,/ the top prosecutor nominee/ has much to do.

이런 상황에서/ 총장에 지명된 문 후보자는/ 할 일이 많다

He has to wisely deal with/ a backlash from prosecutors/ while weeding out “politicized prosecutors”/ who maintain cozy a relationship with political power.

그는 현명하게 대처해야 한다/ 검사들의 반발에/ ‘정치 검사’를 솎아내는 과정에서 드러날/ 정치 권력과 유착한
